Hot Peas 'N Butter Music Video

Hot Peas 'N Butter is a children's musical group that works with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to help promote trike-a-thon fundraisers. In September 2013, I flew to New York City with my supervisor and one of our producers to shoot a music video for a new Hot Peas 'N Butter song. The song, "New Spokes," promotes bicycle safety. St. Jude is currently using the song and the music video to help raise awareness and involvement for the hospital's trike-a-thon.

We spent two days in New York to produce the video, shooting in two locations - the Hot Peas 'N Butter recording studio and a riverside park. We spent the first day loading gear into the studio, pre-lighting, and going over our shot list one final time. We spent most of the second day capturing footage in the studio before moving out to the park around the magic hour.

We captured the dance interlude footage with a group of actors in front of a restaurant in Memphis. We used the same back drop with Hot Peas 'N Butter when they came to Memphis in November 2013.

My supervisor and I shot the entire video with a 5D Mk II and a 5D Mk III, with Zacuto shoulder rigs and EVF's. The vintage 8mm film look was captured on the iPhone 5 with the 8mm Vintage Camera app.

We captured the opening dialogue on an H4n Zoom recorder and used a combination of Kino's and Arri's for lighting. The steadicam work in the park was done on a Glidecam rig. We controlled the sunlight during the dance sequences with a large 12'x12' silk.

I edited the video on Avid Symphony.
