Trouble With Sync Sound In PremierePro? Try This.
I recently ran into an interesting issue with Premiere Pro Creative Cloud while logging and subclipping interviews. Here was my workflow:
I shot each interview with a DSLR and used my Zoom recorder to capture audio.
I then imported both the audio and the video into Premiere Pro.
I paired each video clip with its corresponding audio file by syncing the in-points. This was done all within the Project Panel.
From the Project Panel, I loaded each new merged clip into the Source Monitor for logging.
When I found a sound bite I liked, I set in and out points for the merged clip and created a new subclip in my Project Panel.
So far, so good. I'm sure this workflow isn't dissimilar from your own when dealing with sync sound. The problem began after I logged all of the interviews and started the process of assembling my sequence.
From the Project Panel, I found a subclip I wanted to use in my sequence and loaded it into my Source Monitor.
I trimmed the clip to my liking and dropped it into my sequence.
At this point, when I tried to play the clip from the sequence, the clip wouldn't play from the in point I set. Rather, the clip started playing from the very beginning; from the moment we clapped the slate at the start of the interview.
At first I thought all of my work logging and subclipping had been for nothing. However, I just looked at the timecode of the subclip I liked, then went to the original merged video clip to find the particular sound bite. It required an extra step, but it meant that I didn't lose all of that time logging and subclipping.
I don't know if anyone else has experienced this issue with Premiere Pro Creative Cloud, but if so, I'd love to hear about your experiences and your solutions to the problem.
One solution I have is this: Don't sync the audio and video within the Project Panel. Rather, bring both down into a sequence and sync the clips there. Then load that sequence into your Source Monitor and subclip from there.
