2020 Goals

It’s that time again. Another year is behind us and we turn the page to start a new one. And with that, of course, comes New Year’s Resolutions. I always enjoy looking back on the previous year to evaluate what I accomplished and then set goals for what I would like to achieve in the coming months. Here are the goals I’ve set for myself in 2020.

  • SCHEDULE EACH DAY - While listening to the podcast History Vs. I learned that Theodore Roosevelt was very disciplined with his daily schedule. He mapped out specific times for specific tasks.

  • READ ONE BOOK PER MONTH - I love reading, but most of the time I only make it through three, maybe four books in a year. This year I really want to take my reading to the next level.

  • GET UP EARLIER EVERY DAY - This one will be a challenge. I am not a morning person, but one of my goals is to get up about 45 minutes earlier than I normally do.

  • SERVE MORE - I need to be more intentional about getting out in the community to serve others.

  • WRITE TWO BLOG ARTICLES PER MONTH - It’s difficult to maintain a blog. I’ve been blogging since 2005, but I’ve never been able to maintain a proper publishing schedule. Sometimes I’m pretty good about posting 2-4 articles per month, but then I may go 4-8 weeks before publishing anything. My goal with my blog has always been to share some of the things I’ve learned throughout my 20+ year career in video production. So I hope to share more of that with you in the new year.

  • FINISH A FEATURE-LENGTH SCREENPLAY - Ever since I finished my short film Big and Tall I’ve always felt that there was more to the story that I’d like to tell. I’ve already started the feature-length version, but I need to finish it this year.

  • LEARN TO PAINT - I was an Art minor in college, but sketching has always been my strong suit. I never did learn to paint and this year I’d like to expand into a new creative outlet by learning to paint.

  • EXERCISE MORE - I know, I know. This is on everyone’s list every single year, but this year it means a little more to me. I experienced some health issues in 2019 that was an awakening for me about how important a regular exercise routine is. I also had some close friends who experienced some serious health scares this past year.

  • WRITE AND PRODUCE A NEW SHORT FILM - My previous two films, Big and Tall and Hangry, were a light-hearted adventure and a comedy, respectively. This year I’d like to stretch my writing and directing chops by producing a suspense/horror short. I have a treatment for one and am working on the script. I’m hoping to enter the 2020 Memphis Film Prize with this new project.

What are some of your goals for 2020? What are some of the things you’re working on? What are some new things you hope to learn? I’d love to hear from you. Leave your thoughts in the Comments.
